The “FOCUS #ENDOMETRIOSIS” Congress was held last November 28th in Modena, directed by Dr. Carlo Alboni and addressed to gynecologists, doctors in training, nurses and midwives involved in the management of endometriosis pathology, in order to delve into guidelines and diagnostic methods and management and learn about updates relating to the disease.

Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects women of reproductive age.
Even today, diagnosis is difficult, sometimes due to poor knowledge of the pathology, with a diagnostic delay responsible for severe clinical pictures that require greater expertise. This conference is aimed at gynecologists, doctors in training, nurses and midwives involved in the management of endometriosis pathology, who want learn or deepen guidelines, diagnostic and management methods and learn about updates regarding the disease. Various topics were addressed: from the diagnostic framework to the medical-surgical treatment up to the impact on fertility and future diagnostic-therapeutic prospects. The panel of speakers featured some of the leading national and international experts in the clinical field and offers a high level of experience to share with the participants.

The meeting was constructed by alternating various methods of presenting the topics, in person and via the web, while still preserving an interactive way of discussion between speakers and participants. The Gynecology of the Modena Polyclinic stands out at a regional level for its skills and experience in the treatment of endometriosis, second only to the Sant'Orsola Polyclinic of Bologna. The patient who is affected must be treated in structures that can take care of her disorders in a comprehensive manner. The treatment of the main symptoms such as pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, dysmenorrhea, infertility requires a correct diagnostic framework and timely therapeutic choices shared with the patient starting from the adolescent phase.

The panel of speakers saw the presence of some of the leading national and international experts in the clinical field. Among the speakers was Doctor Simona Del Forno who, as part of this event, presented the "Mona Lisa Smile" project financed under the Erasmus+ programme, in a report entitled "Endometriosis in adolescents: diagnosis and management paths"

Endometriosis is a chronic benign disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. It affects 10% of reproductive-aged women worldwide, with a huge negative impact on their daily life activities, emotional wellbeing and social relations. Moreover, it represents an economic burden, both for patients and healthcare systems. Despite the wide diffusion and increasing healthcare awareness of the disease, the diagnostic delay is still a reason for concern. Globally, the delay from symptom onset to diagnosis is currently estimated at 7-11 years.
